Borage contains borage seed oil, which is distinguished by its high content of unsaturated fats, including polyunsaturated fats. These include omega-6 fatty acids, linoleic acid (LA) and gamma-linolenic acid (GLA). The beneficial effects of linoleic acid occur at an intake of 10 grams per day, and it helps maintain normal blood cholesterol, as does replacing saturated fats with unsaturated fats in the diet.
